The Easter Family consists of Jared, Marti, and Jacob Easter, and their parents Russell Easter, Jr. and Barbara Easter. Russell Easter, Jr. has been playing music for over 50 years. He was introduced to the trade by his father, Russell Easter Sr., of the legendary Easter Brothers. After spending a good portion of his musical career playing for The Easter Brothers, and other gospel groups such as the Rex Nelon Singers, Russell decided it was time for him to come off of the road, and go to work as a studio musician. Well, since he played 13 different instruments, there was quite a demand for his talent. Using him, studios could basically get 13 musicians for the price of just one musician. This resulted in Russell playing on well over 3000 gospel recordings behind groups such as the Primitive Quartet, The Inspirations, Squire Parsons, The Goodmans, The Nelons, The Talleys, and many more! Unfortunately, tragedy soon struck. It was during this time that Russell’s oldest daughter, Shannon, was murdered. She was 23 years of age at the time. To this day, it is not known who committed the crime. Shannon invited Jesus Christ into her heart just two weeks before she was killed. It was this tragedy that put Russell and his family on the road into a full-time ministry. For around 12 years, The Easter Family played an average of 270 churches a year, focused on meeting the urgent need to see as many souls saved as possible. At the end of each concert, Russell likes to share this testimony about his daughter and what put them on the road. He first shared this testimony during a service in Florida. He then gave the alter call, which ended up lasting for an hour and a half! He has continued to share this testimony and it is not unusual to see the entire congregation come forward. The largest response so far has been 520 folks coming forward. This family has truly turned tragedy into triumph. In February of 2006, The Easter Family made the decision to come off of the road. Marti had her first child, David, that month, and a few years later had a beautiful daughter named Katie. Russell, Jr., Barbara, and Jared went on the road with The Easter Brothers as their full time band, and along with Jacob they rekindled the recording studio, under the name of Easter Enterprises. Now in 2011, about five years later, The Easter Family is back! Their brand new project entitled Easter Brothers Legacy showcases the maturity of the group; musically, vocally, and even spiritually. The family decided that the best way to be re-introduced into the gospel music community, was to release an album filled with a few of the greatest messages that The Easter Brothers have ever written. The music of The Easter Brothers has always been sincere, honest, and anointed. It’s music that the world still needs, and will continue to need until the day that Jesus returns.
